Not sure you could call it a "project," but I've just been experimentally trying out different Cashu wallets and use cases... Frankly, with some mixed results, and for sure not rigorously...

I've tried eNuts, Minibits, and https://cashu.me with varying degrees of success/failure. Of the three, most consistent success has been with Minibits; I am in fact using it as my primary nostr NWC wallet in conjunction with Amethyst.

Over the last year, I've used cashu as a convenient way to "zap" some nostriches who (for reasons I don't have the time or energy to bother deciphering in detail) I've been unable to directly zap.

For demonstration purposes at a local bitcoin meetup I co-host, I've also transferred Cashu as text files over a private Meshtastic LoRa WAN network while strolling around the block in our town.

During my two plus years on nostr, I've experienced considerable struggles with wallets in general, simply "getting things working." This is not unexpected; I think of nostr as the very welcome new "Wild, Wild West" of the internet, and deeply appreciate all the devs and power users who are pioneering the space... But while it's getting better, that's simply not happening in a straight line.

So far, and in various configurations, wallets I've used include Alby, Wallet of Satoshi, eNuts, and Minibits in conjunction (mostly) with amethyst. WoS, though custodial, was by far the smoothest experience, with Alby coming in second. Both rug-pulled me (no hard feelings; they gave good notice, and the WoS thing was pure state-driven political drama).

I'm currently using Minibits, with some not 100% diagnosed frustration:

Hey Frens,

I'm terminally frustrated.๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Anybody out there running Amethyst on Graphene (i.e., Android) and able to ZAP freely?

Back in the day when I was running Amethyst with Wallet of Satoshi, I could zap anyone, anywhere, all day long, and the zaps went through like rain and lightning falling on parched earth...๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ˜

Lately, I try to ZAP someone, and it hangs there for a minute or sometimes much more... more often than not, it won't go through at all...๐Ÿ˜ณ

I'm using Minibits and NWC...

Anyone using Graphene in some other combination (EXCEPT Primal; I am paranoid about Primal algorithms and centralization๐Ÿ˜ฌ) and your ZAPPERY working smoothly for you?๐Ÿค”๐Ÿง

What's changed? Is there a disturbance in the protocol? Are there too many users? Why can't I zap freely any more? Will WoS come back to the US now that America is (supposedly) "bitcoin friendly?"

If YOU are having a smooth, easy, functional experience, please share your setup...

This shouldn't be this hard...!๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Minibits is not bad enough to give up; and it may not entirely be a Minibits issue, as I know there's constant tinkering with the protocol; but one goal I have is to find some combination of tools that I can cheerfully recommend to non-techie noobs and expect them to have a smooth experience.

My next steps? I want to run a lightning node on my Start9; I want to fiddle with eCash embedded in graphics, and with eCash locked to an npub; I hope to find out why and how the eCash glitches I've seen have happened, and pull together a Cashu/eCash toolset I can recommend with some degree of confidence.๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I have high hopes for Cashu bitcoin; yes, it's custodial, but potentially SO much better than conventional banking. You can pretty much configure and define your level of trust.

I don't have room on my personal dance card to work on Cashu development, but I deeply appreciate the toolmaking devs who are bringing it about.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜
