This photo of the Grateful Dead was taken at ‘Mnasidika’ the hippie boutique in San Francisco's Haight Ashbury neighborhood in the 1960s owned by Peggy Caserta, the significant lover of Janis Joplin. It was located at 1510 Haight Street in the Doolan-Larson building, which is still standing today.
The store was a hangout for musicians like Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and The Grateful Dead. Mnasidika was a center for the psychedelic revolution in San Francisco, and is credited with launching the bell-bottom jeans craze. Peggy Caserta, opened the store in 1965 when she was 24 years old. The store closed in 1968.
