I remember finding out after years of youthful reading of the Hardy Boys books that Franklin W. Dixon is a pen name for a team of authors.
I didn't like finding out about that. It felt like I'd been cheated. Seems a bit silly in retrospect, but that was how I felt then.
Now I see pen names like brands, market identities really, but I'm also much older... and I've published under pen names.
So I wonder, how obvious should I make it to my pen-name readers that the name is a brand, not a person?
