Students at Portland State University went on a short march in remembrance of Palestinian martyrs. Throughout the entire march, 5 bike cops were following the crowd. After the march the group came back together in front of Hoffman Hall. At this point, 3 tents were set up outside in front of the lecture hall. It didn't take long for the cops to come back. Only this time, the 5 bike cops had backup from both campus police and a decent sized group of other PPB officers on foot. The cops came in heavy but students linked arms and held a line in front of the police, protecting the area where the tents were at. Cops pushed their way thru and went straight for the tents as students were getting pushed around. On top of physical violence, multiple cops were aggressively snatching people's umbrellas. The cop in yellow, John Oliphant, was especially itching to use his mace. Throughout this, the group of protesters didn't back down and held their ground. Folks held the line and marched towards the police until the cops retreated. PSU president Ann Cudd thinks this is an appropriate response to students expressing their right to free speech
