My problem with the campaign is that it’s 90% based on false and extremely manipulated arguments.
The Mozilla websites lists Kazakhstan and Turkey as examples of CA abuse, apparently missing the obvious fact that none of them are in EU and neither eIDAS applies to these countries, nor they have any say in the eIDAS policy.
It’s simply a blatant non sequitur. The wording they use is incendiary, they vilify ETSI as an organisation, as they portray it, almost specialising in illegal surveillance.
Their counterexample of the “good policymakers” is an industry cartel run by a group of companies from US and tax havens, which aren’t exactly the best example for rule of law and privacy protection.
And they provide literally zero references to the original legislation - not even a single link to the #eIDAS draft, nor even a single quote! - to support their numerous accusations, for example that there’s no way to retract a maliciously injected QCA root or that the roots are added by Member States with no other control.
Which I happen to know is a nonsense, but nobody reading the campaign page will unless they perform an entirely independent study, at which stage they will understand the level of manipulation applied by #Mozilla here.
