as long-time readers know, I have been using Optane with Linux LVM to have a write-thru cache on slower storage media, anyway Optane NVMe sticks are now hard to get (taking donations of 32GB and up 🥲👉👈) so depending how many storage slots a machine has, I may be using normal SSDs in similar roles, or for holding swap, or /var.
the non Optane devices used for these roles will be overprovisioned such that ssd wear is also less a concern.
