Starlink, Project Kuiper) all require thousands of comsats in low orbits that decay after 3-5 years (much less if they don't reboost continuously with ion rockets) to minimize packet lag. They're also trialing direct-to-cellphone comsat service. So just to keep standing still, Starlink alone needs to launch >1000 small satellites/year.

But the plan is to replace your neighbourhood cellphone masts with satellites, sooner than you expect.
