Why am I so incapable of keeping images/videos after I've uploaded them to whatever I'm making them for?

Anything we do for clients gets backed up in a hundred different ways to multiple repositories and kept indefinitely, but for some reason anything I make for myself just somehow disappears into the abyss.

I really need to upload proper thumbnails for these old YouTube videos now, but can I find any of my old assets to create them from? Of course not. I must've nuked the lot fgs 😫
