The judge had already told them they lost and the only items under discussion were how badly. Fox may have figured $800 million was a cheap way to avoid the humiliation of Rupert Murdoch taking the stand against Dominion's lawyers and getting proven that his network told election lies.
Of course, Trump, not realizing he is responsible for Fox getting in legal hot water, is going to crow that Fox deserved it for not being pro-Trump enough. But that's Trump...
