As a child, I lived in many places (we moved a lot) but few of them featured mountains. There was one place, a scrappy patch of eastern Washington sort-of farm country, that boasted a view of distant mountains.

I used to stare at them, imagining myself in the middle of the trees, next to a lake, protected by those rugged sentinels. It was where I so, so, so wanted to be.
