I still need to read more, but my first reaction to the rumors of #Meta joining the fediverse are curiosity.
Meta's business model is to collect tons of user data and sell ads.
It's conceivable that they would gather user data through the fediverse, but I assume complicated legally and technically.
The ads, though. How on earth could they sell ads to the users? Unless the ads were only distributed locally? In which case, the risk to fediverse users is small?
I'm probably missing something.
