I’ve seen way too much of Tech culture to believe that everybody is caring about others and or progressive in the community building kind of sense. In short, the Fediverse, mostly lesser known Fediverse projects like Go to Social, ones that prioritize community, safety, accessibility, and otherwise are extremely rare. They are so rare that they will never break into the mainstream which is fine for me, because as much as I loath the Tech industry and culture at large, I do like small pockets of the web where this kind of thing won’t touch me for a while. Simply by the nature of these kind of platforms being inclusive, that drives people like this away mostly. It’s a strange juxtaposition because I know a lot of people that use proton. I just know that the majority of Tech and or Tech culture is very right wing, very Republican, very libertarian, very capitalist. in fact, the Fediverse is honestly the first place I found that has Tech people with some marginally decent standards. Of course you’ve got your drama here and your conflicts here, but those feel much more manageable compared to the outright hatred and hostility by mainstream Tech.
