Typical computers: OS split primarily into "apps", as well as behind-the-scenes "daemons".
My hypothetical: OS split *primarily* into "transcoders" (defined loosely), barely any concept of apps. Aims to deliver a cohesive featureful document-centric experience! And contact-centric, for an Internet Communicator.

Typical: Updates require restart, of at least an app.
Mine: Hotswapped updates, risks crashes if we don't religious adhere to Postels Law!
