I share many of the feelings you describe. And being (relatively) old enough to have lived the first age of the web (the 90s) and what happened after, I understand what you write about how the new internet (social networks) changed interpersonal dynamics. For the worse.
But… as in the 90s we saw the internet as an autonomous zone, free of laws and stereotypes and open to creativity and subcultures, also today I believe many of us found, or even created, autonomous digital niches where expressing ourselves is easier. So, I’m slightly hopeful.
Yes, of course “out there” there still are enshittification, mass surveillance, polarization, social pressure, and a lot of people I’d like to avoid. But there are ways to minimize their impact. Or so I like to think.
