Functionally all a cloak is, is a blanket you've fastened to yourself through some means. And I 100% recommend just buying a good wool blanket and turning that into one. It's cheaper. But if you wanted a big great cloak, or something hooded, buying can be easier.
For general wear, my opinion is that ponchos and ruanas are the best overall. They're very similar, just that the ruana takes the poncho neck hole, and splits it down the center. They aren't bulky, they're not harder to walk in like a big great cloak, and they're warm (or great rain gear if they're made from something like waxed canvas or oilcloth) and very easy to take on or off.
If you want to get fancy, the big great cloaks are cut circular. It's how they wrap and drape so well. These are best if it's really cold, or you're using it as part of a sleep system like I do. Since there's a ton of material. Burgschneider makes my favorite one. Though unfortunately it's not 100% wool.
Etsy has a ton of good looking makers though. My summer ruana came from there.
