I kinda knew this story, but it's presented well here. I'm so tired of the narrative that people can't change. Of the idea that we should exile those who hold toxic beliefs. But it is also true that hateful words can inspire violence against others. We act like times have never been so bad, so we must take mental or cultural shortcuts to survive the stress. But history shows it has been so much worse for so many others in the past, and taking the hard road was worth it.
