i unironically feel like thinking of dancing in terms of a finite state machine was helpful to me. it's like your body has let's say 10 distinct poses (states), and so dancing is essentially like transitioning from one pose to another. but then after you reach that other pose you still have some momentum left over, and stopping in your tracks is lame as hell, so you have to figure out something to do with that extra momentum, and therein lies the fun and creativity of dancing. it's best not to think about it too much though
