I'm the chair of our town's Board of Abatement. If you think your property tax or your water/wastewater bill is too high, you come to us. I joke that it's the closest thing I can be to Robin Hood, giving people their money back, or lowering their debt, courtesy of the state. But we don't always give people money back. Last night there was a man who missed the tax deadline by a few days and had a few hundred bucks in penalties/fees. The town's payment structure is confusing. [1/2]
