My White-crowned Sparrows are back! Hooray! They hang out each winter the the quince thicket in my backyard and are about two weeks later than usual. I saw 4 yesterday and heard one singing this morning. These little birds are active in the yard and their antics make me smile.
This photo is from 2011 and shows 4 sparrows in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains east of Albuquerque. The lower tow are 1st year birds (brown rather than black stripes.)
