“What I wanted, more than anything, was to be a Boy Scout. I wanted to learn how to tie knots, hunt wild game, drink from a stream, cook over an open fire, camp under the stars, and generally live off the land in self-sufficient splendor. I wanted to know secret things and embark on wild adventures that involved the cunning use of guns and knives. This all seemed quite reasonable to me at the time. Sometimes, it still does.”
