oh god, apple's public DMA response is terrible: https://developer.apple.com/support/downloads/DMA-Interoperability-Dec-2024.pdf
They listed a bunch of the requests Facebook had made, even though the European Commission had already opened proceedings against them for revealing interoperability requests.
Apple claims that Facebook's request "appears to be completely unrelated to the actual use of Meta external devices", which is an absurd weasel word to use here. I can't see how Facebook would use e.g. iPhone mirroring in any way other than with headsets or livestreaming without freaking out a lot of users.
Apple claims that giving access to airplay to 3rd parties "creates a new class of privacy and security issues, while giving them data about users’ homes". What privacy issue? What security issue? If allowing 3rd parties to use AirPlay is a security issue then how did they release it in the first place, knowing it would be a network protocol installed on millions of devices, including many TVs that will never get security updates?
According to Apple giving 3rd parties access to CarPlay is a "removal of control from users [that] could undermine their choices". Apparently making any decision other than the one Apple wants you to undermines your choices.
