Domestic Boxoffice for December 1, 2023.
There's a lot to unpack here.
Each of the top four is in its own way a big shit in the face of Hollywood. Beyonce's concert film, like Taylor Swift's, bypasses Hollywood entirely, being distributed by AMC Theaters. Godzilla Minus One is being distributed by Toho, the first time they have done this having previously delegated this duty to Crunchyroll. So again, Hollywood gets nothing. Napoleon is holding strong in third, a rare Hollywood film with featuring a White couple. Fourth is The Shift, a Christian Twilight Zone style film from Angel Studios who had a big hit with Sound of Freedom.
Meanwhile Wish has fallen to sixth place after ten days of release, falling 80% from last Friday's gross, an unmitigated disaster. The Marvels is limping along in eighth place after three weeks in release.
The most spiteful mud film, Next Goal Wins, is another Disney flop descending to fourteenth place in just two weeks.
