There’s two different parts. Ordinals and inscriptions. Ordinals are a numbering system for sats that don’t really affect block size. Inscriptions are data stored in the witness part of transactions on the blockchain. There’s a lot of nuance but one side of the argument doesn’t want anything in the blockchain except for financial transactions. The other side wants “fun” things like the nfts that are enabled by ordinals and inscriptions. Bigger blocks for the inscriptions will put more strain on the initial blockchain downloads which could make the barrier to entry to running a node higher. So far none of the people against it have come up with a solution to stop it since they are valid transactions so I guess we will have to see how it plays out.
