You see, I caught the measles at age 24 and honestly feel like it nearly killed me: Fever, double-vision, and exhaustion were my symptoms for a couple weeks. For months after, I was short of breath after mild exertion and was left with a permanent heart arrhythmia. Long measles, perhaps. I caught the measles while serving as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Africa. I told my mother about it in a letter home and she responded that she was always unsure about whether I had gotten the measles vaccine. I guess that I did not.
