This might be a crazy fact you're not aware of—and I may be wrong—and it may differ from city to city and state to state: Once armed people realized that the living people they defended themselves against could sue them into oblivion, they started to shoot to kill instead of shoot to neutralize. Cops, CCWs, home defense. There's been a change of tactic based on these civil lawsuits. It's pretty brutal but the outcome is better for the defendant if the attacker is deceased.
