Jeff "never puts away anything, especially oven mitts" Cliff, Bringer of Nightmares 🏴☠️🦝🐙 🇱🇧🧯 🇨🇦🐧😷“🌐 (nprofile…66ct) I am still :ablobcatsweatsip: ing (nprofile…5dmj) "Different" is not "advancement". You can have 16 different iterations of iPhones, but unless they're doing something notably outside what version 1 was doing, they're a stagnant technological paradigm.
Purism doing smart phones without corpo software is nice, but not an advancement. Alternate social media platforms are still social media platforms, sometimes more stagnant than the ones they pretend to replace. (Bsky is just Truth Social with extra steps, and TS was just fediverse without the federation.)
And you STILL don't have mRNA vaccines. However effective the jabs are or are not, they aren't proper vaccines. One day someone will make something amazing with that biotechnology but today we're still waiting.
I don't want to get into the whole AI rant, because that deserves a longer dissection than a fedi effortpost. I'll just say the current craze about generative AI is a hype train over a slick, normie-friendly natural language UI slapped on top of decades-old tech. I expect it to have the same hype cycle as NFTs did. Call it advancement if you like, I can't fully argue against it, but I see everyone smacking into its limitations already and it's barely into the normie adoption phase.
Smart contracts on blockchain are a legit advancement. I'll give the tech world that one.
