It’s so true.
I’m pretty convinced that this is a more accurate sample/representation of humanity in general. I think the reason we’re led to believe that “most people suck” and “everyone’s so polarized” is primarily an illusion caused by the rage-bait algorithms of today’s internet.
It lifts up and promotes divisive content, making everyone mad (and engage from a toxic place) and so of course it looks like we’re all a bunch of jerks.
Stepping out of that, into a neutral online space where the financial incentives don’t foster toxicity and division (and, if anything, the incentives - zaps - drive positive, creative, productive content), and all of a sudden we can see each other in a much more honest, un-distorted light.
