There is a trope regarding economic/political/societal acclimatisation that includes a frog.
In brief, if you put a frog in cold water and slowly heat it the frog will acclimatise and stay there until it cooks to death.
This has limited truth.
How do we know? Someone did the experiment.
In 1869 Friedrich Goltz did exactly that. He did find that if the frog had its brain removed it would stay in the water, but intact ones escaped when it got to 25C.
