I think there's a lag in both directions. I've lived in both the UK and Canada and have found that generally speaking, Canada lags behind the UK in environmental norms.
E.g., washing up tubs are everywhere in the UK. They reduce the amount of water required and when I brought the habit over to Canada, everyone asked why I did it.
