Indonesia plans to bar ISPs from offering speeds below 100Mbps.
Communications Minister Budi Arie Setiadi made the announcement after the latest Speedtest Global Index by Ookla found the country’s median fixed broadband download speed languishing at 27.87Mbps, 126th out of 178 countries, while the median for mobile broadband is at 24.96Mbps, 97th of 146 countries.
The global median download speed for mobile broadband is 49.2Mbps with 11Mbps up while fixed broadband speeds are 90.93Mbps down and 41.76Mbps up.
In Southeast Asia Indonesia’s internet connection speeds are only higher than Myanmar’s and East Timor’s for both fixed and mobile broadband connections.
