So I'm reading about the possible fates of the universe and am looking the "Big Slurp". In it it mentions that far galaxies are presently moving away from one another faster than the speed of light.
As I remember in my science class back in the day, the teacher said travel faster than the speed of light would be impossible according to science of the day (except perhaps very small particles). So I take to google to ask why. And it tells me that they're not traveling but rather the fabric of space is stretching itself and that is what is pulling them apart faster than light.
I am now at the point of wondering what scientists will say a thousand years from now about what our people say today. Do we have a solid grasp on our own world or are we talking about the plum pudding and ether of our time?
