The atproto created by Bluesky seems very interesting. Seems to be an improvement over the ActivityPub protocol with things like cryptographic authorization, plug-in based support for features on the server side and more lightweight hosting opportunities for users' own data with relays handling metadata related to how the network works (likes, subscribes...).
