i think a typical trait of people who lack emotional depth is to find displays of strong emotion annoying.

if you don't really have deep emotions, it's natural to assume that nobody else does either, so why put on such theatrical displays?

if you have depth of emotion, you'll also have empathy, and an emotional display will trigger a similar emotion in you. seeing someone cry might give you the urge to cry too, for example.

if you lack this ability, you might be a sociopath.
