Maybe learning about the "science wars" of the 1990s just feels weird because as a millennial I grew up with constant reminders of the socially constructed conditions of technical knowledge in the form of authority figures clearly pushing total horseshit? Like between the Iraq War UN hearings and the climate change "debates" it seemed hard to pretend otherwise
