My favorite encounter with ze German customs was once when I was stopped and searched with a large suitcase inside another suitcase, both completely empty. I was returning from a trip unloading some personal items with a family member, and was moving out of the country soon (hence the empty bags). I'll never forget the look on their faces. Having nothing to inspect, the only thing they could question me about was my new-ish laptop. How dare you have a new laptop.
