Looks like the active spam situation on the Fediverse is mostly resolved, although the cost of taking over a few open-to-join Mastodon servers and standing up a few fake ActivityPub instances into existence while you're a hacker living off the land are both basically free so we'll see what happens in the next few weeks. Either way it'll be fun to see how individuals and the network as a whole handle this new (everything old is new again) spam paradigm.
