why do I know so much about the history of Mexico City’s water system? I guess it just sticks out to me as an especially tragic case of colonialist arrogance.
here was a native culture with objectively more sophisticated infrastructure technology than the invading force and now… it’s just gone. poof. all because the invaders assumed the native people could not possibly know more than them about the local conditions
