I get a good chuckle when I talk about potentially leaving the US if Trump gets re-elected and people who don't know me try to explain how hard it is to move internationally.
When I moved to the US, it was entirely against my will. The FBI just showed up, handcuffed me, then took me to jail. I spent my first 2 weeks as a US resident in solitary confinement, followed by the next 2 weeks in a Bureau of Prisons halfway house. When I got released I had no papers, ID, or access to any of my bank accounts or credit cards. I ended up co-signing a lease on a apartment with some dude I just met and for the next 5 years I was basically entirely reliant on people's kindness to survive. Still to this date I haven't seen a single one of the friends I grew up with again.
I think I'll probably be ok with just regular international moving, but if it's the stress from filling out visa applications that finally pushes me over the edge, at least it'll make for a funny story.
