Running an open Fediverse server is a high risk, low reward endeavour.
If you run it as a public service, it’s financially draining and opens you up to legal liability.
And even if you properly deal with money and liabilities, someone out there will hate you anyway because that’s just how it goes.
Last year, I must have spent $2,000 keeping various projects afloat. In the end, these projects just pissed people off. So lesson learned.
The only servers I’m now supporting are my family’s servers. They are not open to the public.
