I see places with 'now hiring' signs out front pretty frequently. They were everywhere in the covid times. No phone number or website, they just expect you to walk in and ask.
I think this stuff is still around, it's just in small towns and rural areas like here with local companies that only care about hiring people that are gonna do the job instead of diversity quotas and shit.
