Stock Pixel OS uses a fancier Google app for this part of it but they still use AOSP DocumentsUI elsewhere. The app is still being improved in AOSP and will be getting better over time. We could change some things about it ourselves but we're working on replacing or overhauling the actually abandoned AOSP apps first: Clock. Contacts, Phone, Messaging, Keyboard, etc.",
