reminds me of the way a (un)homeschooled child is free to arrange her day to match her self-aware needs, if-when her guardians trust her self-wisdom to guide her.
it was hilarious and instructive to me to finally get the silliness of those socially-declared parenting rules re: strictly-enforcing nap times when I found my 1yr old dd had fallen asleep sitting up while playing. she knew, and I learned. I would so much rather raise a person who knew and honored her own body's needs this way than to try to line herself up with external shoulds.
we never enforced bedtimes either. skipped that whole struggle. turns out, it was a great delight to have those quiet, kids-still-sleeping coffee hours...
when in doubt about what's "right" for your life's choices, I like to remember that we are only talkative chimps. so: imitate bonobos and we'll all be just fine!
