270 Park Avenue, a 1300' skyscraper that will be the headquarters of JP Morgan - Chase, replaces the Union Carbide building that was on the site since 1960. The structural design is complicated by the fact that it sits over an active rail yard for Grand Central Terminal.
Engineering considerations presumably contributed to the interesting steelwork at the lower levels, which is by now concealed.
