PallasRiot on Nostr: One of the tools that anti-feminists use quite successfully to organize against ...

One of the tools that anti-feminists use quite successfully to organize against feminism and create counter-narratives is by taking the language and aesthetics of feminism, and misappropriating them for use in ways that create lines of attack against those original concepts. This is the basis of the MRA movement, which attacks feminism by misappropriation of feminist style of rhetoric and the appearance of civil rights struggle. By organizing men to "fight for equal rights" in a way that specifically points to supposed advantages of women, it frames power dynamics in ways that obscure the actual hierarchies at play. This encourages men to recognize the ways they are systemically victimized by to look away from patriarchy as a source and instead to see themselves as in-competition with women for a finite civil rights and justice pie. Because they misappropriate the language of feminism, when feminists try to provide feminist analysis the MRAs are effectively innoculated. "No, the structure of the nuclear family *actually* oppresses men primarily, reproductive labor is actually a system by which the rights of fathers are stolen, and it's women who enforce a regime of male disposability" etc etc. The emotional appeal that MRAs use to organize this style of anti-feminism is that they basically tell men "if X thing is true for women then it must also be true for men, and maybe it's even EXTRA true for men".

Anyways this is also a post about how the language of transfeminism is constantly attacked as alienating transmasculine people kthxbai
