When I started managing a team 3.7 years ago, I wanted to distill out the bad things I'd lived in past labs, & keep the best things. Turns out that's bloody hard. How to live up to the unwritten expectations of needing to work extra hours while telling your crew to work their hours & walk out the door in time? Ultimately, I partly succeeded. Which is probably as good as it gets in the real world.
