isn't it crazy that arbitrary names everyone can just pick and use are somehow able to not cause incredibly constant breakage in computing?
Nothing prevents me from making a program named, say, hexchat, but were I to set up a package for it and install it to /usr/bin/hexchat i would ruin some peoples' days
how can we just ... live like this?
Note I am not shilling for Java/Android style reverse domain name names like one.x27.mycoolprogram since DNS entries are less permanent than software imo.
Also terrifying field of "this should not work and has so much potential for collision pain": Port numbers!
