One thing I would add from my perspective is I also believe Google and Facebook are not just evil because they're good at making advertising dollars off of us, but because they store incredible amounts of info on us and use it against us.
My understanding is that Google, for instance, gives us different search results based on our political leanings, etc. They have access to all our Gmails and Docs. They record our locations with time stamps.They provide 3-letter agencies with all kinds of tracking info, which is very dangerous depending on who's in power (whether now or in the future).
Google and Facebook definitely influence society in a bad way, foisting their "values" on us.
That's not to excuse what those with influence over TikTok are doing. I don't like any of the Big Tech players.
