Typically this is the activeMonth number but I'll use activeHalfyear if that isn't available. The large misskey instances don't report active via the API but I think all recent code Mastodon ones do. How accurate it is is an entirely different question as there have been bugs in that code. mastodon.social reports 1.76 million accounts and ~270k active.
