Also OTD in History in the year 1815, British forces launched an attack against Brevet Major General Andrew "Old Hickory" Jackson’s well-prepared defenses in New Orleans. The Brits advanced across open ground in the face of heavy American artillery and musket fire and were massacred, losing around 2,000 men during an assault that lasted only about 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, Jackson's forces, made up of soldiers, militia, freed slaves and pirates suffered only around 70 casualties.
