“Why did John wear what he wore? What does it mean or symbolize?
John’s clothing contains information that pertains to us in these later days, especially regarding the John the Baptist moment.
→ First, John’s robes embodied poverty. However, we know that John was the son of a High Priest. Not only the son but the only son, meaning he would carry on the priesthood when his father passed away. This means he would have had access to and rights to the priestly clothing of the Levitical priesthood. John had no reason to wear robes that showed poverty. But his robes are important because they show what God is expecting of us today. John had rights to the robes of the priesthood, and we can see he had merit being well trained by his father for his role as priest, yet he used neither to show his status. He showed abject humility in everything he did. He embodied in this the role of Godly Priesthood. Not a priesthood that is flashy or thinks highly of themselves, but a humble and meek priesthood that represents God rather than themselves.”
